Abstract
This paper presents the results of research on the implementation of Islamic religious education as an instrument of character education at the elementary level educational institutions. Using comparative research in two schools in Bengkulu, namely Integrated Islamic Primary School (SDIT) Iqra 1 and in State Primary School (SDN) 1, the research focus directed at aspects in the implementation of Islamic religious education in building the students character, including input, process, output and method aspects. This study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that, both schools have implemented educational character through establishing and developing religious education so that learners have a noble character applied in everyday life. Except the input aspect, both schools equally employ the integrated and comprehensive educational process through model and habitual methods in resulting excellent outputs, it is shown that both schools reach a hundred percent of their completions over the last 6 years.

Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian mengenai pelaksanaan pendidikan agama Islam sebagai instrumen pendidikan karakter di lembaga pendidikan tingkat dasar. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada aspek input, proses, metode, dan output pelaksanaan pendidikan agama Islam dalam pembentukan karakter siswa, dengan melakukan riset komparatif di dua sekolah, yaitu Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu (SDIT) Iqra 1 dan Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) 1, yang keduanya berada di Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan didukung data kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa SDIT Iqra 1 dan SD Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu telah menerapkan pendidikan karakter melalui penanaman dan pengembangan pendidikan agama, agar peserta didik memiliki akhlak mulia yang dapat diaplikasikan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Meskipun dalam aspek input terdapat perbedaan, tetapi aspek proses, metode, dan output memiliki kesamaan, yakni sama-sama menerapkan proses pendidikan secara terpadu, terintegrasi, dan komprehensif, dengan menggunakan metode keteladanan dan pembiasaan, sehingga menghasilkan output yang sangat baik. Hal ini ditunjukkan antara lain oleh presentase kelulusan di kedua sekolah tersebut dalam kurun 6 tahun terakhir yang mencapai seratus persen..
